It’s Not Reverse Discrimination To Address Systemic Racism

I

I’m going to get back to my “Breaking Mental Myopia” series very shortly, but first I want to address something I’m seeing a LOT of in my Facebook newsfeed – yes from Christians / Kingdom citizens.

It’s disingenuous (at best) to despise the conversation on the impacts of systemic racism in the United States (or deny it’s existence), and then cry out “reverse discrimination” or “reverse racism” when black people make efforts through organizations or initiatives to specifically address the massive economic gaps that currently exist.

(To quantify that gap – according to data from the Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances, in 2016 the typical middle-class black household had $17,600 in wealth versus $171,000 for the median white household.)

I see statements like “Well what if we had a white (insert name of org/initiative)? They’d go crazy!”

The same people who criticize these efforts and organizations also criticize the black community as having an over reliance on government programs.

It’s astounding really.

If you’re criticizing in this way, please stop (and ask Holy Spirit why you feel this way and ask God to give you His perspective).

If your friends or family are criticizing in this way, please consider confronting in love.

If you have a Kingdom solution to deal with the economic inequities, please take action on it. Money ain’t everything but economic health is surely a part of “life more abundant.”

Love you and I mean it!
