The Black-White Racial Divide in the Church

T

I started a book today specifically about race and the church, and the first chapter title was “Confronting the Black-White Racial Divide.”

As soon as I read those words, I immediately heard “That’s a lie.” It was a resolute thought in my mind that seemingly came out of nowhere. It came so powerfully firm and fast that it actually caught me off guard.

Now this isn’t an indictment on the book or the authors as I haven’t even read the chapter yet and don’t know the words that will follow, but I love how the Holy Spirit wanted to ensure I stayed rooted in Truth with His lens before I continued to read.

Truth is that in Christ we are all already one in Him. There is no Black-White racial divide in the body of Christ.

As Christians / Kingdom citizens we are encouraged to live FROM salvation by faith and FROM victory and FROM identity instead of working FOR these things. We don’t have to grind in our own strength to be what we already are or achieve what we already have.

In the same way, we need to relate to one another and work together by God’s grace FROM a place of oneness rather than work FOR oneness that we already have by the power and love of Christ and the Holy Spirit who dwells within and among us.

I’m not at all saying there isn’t a need for conversations, understanding, and greater Kingdom alignment in our thoughts, words, and actions. If you have heard anything I’ve said over the last few months, you know that’s precisely what I’ve been going after. However this is an important mindset shift and heart posture for us to have on oneness so that we can experience God’s best, be lights in darkness, and solution bearers in the world.

Thanks for coming to my Sunday sermon.

In other words, living out of Kingdom identity and citizenship – looking at everything through Heaven’s lens.
