Breaking Mental Myopia: The Silence of the Saints

You know the world’s culture is influencing the King’s culture when so many in the body of Christ have decided that “All Silence is Violence” or “Silence is Agreement” or “Silence is Disagreement” when it comes to [insert ANY tough issue we are facing here].

Really? Since when? Is that God’s truth in all situations?

Silence can also be an exercise of wisdom.
Silence can also be holy.
Silence can also be divinely strategic.
Silence can also be necessary.
Silence can also be the result of something not being top of mind or focus due to the assignment on an individual’s life.

Why would we judge our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ (or anyone for that matter) in a wholesale manner like that?

Mental myopia – the result of seeing with an “all or nothing” lens rather than the Kingdom/Heaven’s lens. It’s destructive to people as well as to progress, both individually and collectively.

We need to choose a higher lens by seeking first the Kingdom of God and allowing the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, comfort, correct, and reveal… and then operate accordingly.

Please note that I did not say that there aren’t situations where silence very well means those things.

“….a time to keep silence, and a time to speak” Ecclesiastes 3:7

In other words, living out of Kingdom identity and citizenship – looking at everything through Heaven’s lens.
